Justin Timberlake Drops New Single “Suit & Tie”

New Album "The 20/20 Experience" Due This Year

Just in case (you can find the pun if you read those words aloud) you forgot that Justin Timberlake can actually sing…he’s chosen 2013 to remind us all. A few days ago, Timberlake put out a teaser video suggesting his return to music, sparking a flurry of speculation around the Interwebs. Then on Sunday, in an open letter to his fans via his website, he officially announced his upcoming album The 20/20 Experience, due out sometime this year.

Not wasting the proverbial spotlight, this week Timberlake released “Suit & Tie,” the first single from the upcoming record. While my personal taste leans away from this particular brand of R&B pop, I have to say this track is remarkably catchy. Produced by Timbaland (and featuring some rhymes by Jay-Z), “Suit & Tie” basically riffs over two chords for more than five minutes, moving back and forth easily between a slow hip-hop breakdown and an extremely danceable shuffle—and the whole track makes you want to don a tux (or gown, as the case may be) and go out on the town. Very smooth, Justin.

About the Author

on MUSIC IS MY OXYGEN WEEKLY.

Tim Ferrar's interest in pop and rock started as a child, listening to Top-40 radio for hours on end while playing air guitar in his bedroom. Eventually air guitar led to electric guitar, and Tim began playing in bands and writing his own songs. With an admitted weakness for "a great hook or a great guitar riff," Tim's musical tastes are broad and varied, ranging from Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga on the pop side to Bon Jovi and Foo Fighters on the rock side- making him the ideal guy to cover our Rock and Pop categories. By day, Tim is a mild-mannered accountant in Chicago. By night, he rocks out on electric guitar in a cover band in various clubs around town- much to the surprise of some of his clients.
