That’s right. Lee Daniels, director of the The Butler, is currently in talks to direct the life story of one of the all-time greatest stand up comedians Richard Pryor.
The Pryor biopic has been on and off for the better part of ten years. The film has been set up and then fallen apart and then re-set up. It’s a miracle that things are this close to being realized right now.
As for who is going to play the part of Pryor the three names being thrown around the most are Eddie Murphy, Marlon Wayans, and Michael B Jordan. Both Marlon and Murphy have been linked to the project for almost as long as it’s been around. Michael B Jordan is a recent addition to the potential pool of actors who would bring the iconic stand up to life.
In my book Jordan is the only actor for the job. The other two individuals, while being talented and funny in their own way, are too identifiable. Jordan has just the right about of acting skill and not-yet-a-super star to really make the film an experience.
