Open to the public, a memorial gathering for friends and fans to honor late rock icon Lou Reed is scheduled for today, November 14, from 1:00-4:00 PM EST, to be held at The Paul Milstein Pool & Terrace at Lincoln Center.
“A gathering open to the public – no speeches. No live performances, just Lou’s voice, guitar music & songs – playing the recordings selected by his family and friends.” This is the description appearing on Lou Reed’s Facebook page. Simple and understated, just the way Lou would have wanted it.
Reed passed away from liver failure on October 27 in his home in Long Island. He had undergone a liver transplant back in May, after which he proclaimed himself to be “bigger and stronger than ever.” However, complications ensued in the following months, and the physicians essentially ran out of options. Reed’s death was met with an outpouring of public tributes from family and friends in the entertainment industry, including Mick Jagger, Bono, Nikki Sixx, Steven Tyler, David Byrne, Billy Idol and his wife Laurie Anderson, among many others.
Reed’s last interview was made public earlier this week.
