MIMO - When Music is Your Fix

Missing SXSW? Stream (Some) Live Performances on VEVO

South By Southwest (SXSW), Austin’s world-renowned “indie” music/film/interactive festival, is growing larger and more dominant every year. While the music portion of the festival has been drawing hundreds of indie bands (and a few bigger acts) every year, this year’s debut iTunes Music Festival at SXSW is putting the event squarely in the mainstream spotlight, with scheduled shows from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Pitbull, Soundgarden and Coldplay, among many others.

If you weren’t able to make SXSW this year, the iTunes Festival is making their part of it available for live streaming on VEVO—fifteen performances in all, three per night, starting tonight, March 11 and going through March 15. (The full performance schedule is below.)

The only caveat: typical of Apple, only Apple users will be able to view the stream. You can watch the performances on an iOS device using the VEVO app, on Apple TV, or by using the Mac Safari web browser via vevo.com/itunesfestival.

Tonight’s lineup includes London Grammar, Imagine Dragons, and a special one-off show by Coldplay. Not to be missed.  (If you aren’t an Apple user, find one.)

Apart from the iTunes Festival, this year’s SXSW has already proven to be the biggest yet. Just getting started, festival goers have already experienced a special interview with Edward Snowden (via video from Russia) and a surprise appearance by Justin Bieber.  Also scheduled this week is a keynote address from Lady Gaga.

About the Author

on MUSIC IS MY OXYGEN WEEKLY.

David Tillman is an independent composer/arranger whose primary work involves writing jingles for commercials for radio and television, with several film and television placements to his credit as well. David has a fascination for all things related to the music business and the music industry in general, an obsession which his wife finds to be mildly unhealthy at times. His personal tastes in music are in electronica and industrial rock, and include The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and Nine Inch Nails (he loves that Trent Reznor is writing soundtracks!). When not in his office or in his man-cave, David enjoys skiing, hiking, the occasional game of golf, and sometimes just lounging by the pool. David lives with his wife and three children in Los Angeles, CA.
