Yeah, we’re at it again with another Music News Week In Review. Apparently we’ve got nothing better to do on a Saturday morning than scour the Interwebs for pithy headlines we didn’t previously report on MIMO this week. But don’t judge—apparently, you’ve got nothing better to do than to read them.
So here you go…
ROCKERS AVRIL LAVIGNE AND CHAD KROEGER TO WED
“Chavril.” Aww, how cute—Canada now has its own uni-name power couple. This week, it was reported that Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger proposed to solo-rocker Avril Lavigne, presenting her with a 14-carat diamond. The couple reportedly became an item while working together on Lavigne’s upcoming studio album. Between sharing a similar musical vein of rock-turned-pop and overall similar attitude and swagger, this seems like a great fit. (Perhaps the “big rock” he gave her is symbolic?) No wedding date set as of yet.
LL COOL J APPREHENDS HOME INTRUDER, AND THEN SOME
Apparently, LL Cool J’s mama really did say “knock you out.” (Sorry for the overused play on words—it’s just too good.) Although in this case, “knock you out” was more like “knock you silly.” Early Wednesday, the rapper caught a man attempting to burglarize his home and, um, “detained” him until police arrived—apparently breaking the man’s jaw, nose and ribs in the process. The suspect is identified as Jonathan Kirby, and is still in the hospital. When he gets out—well, he may never actually “get out.” With Kirby’s prior criminal record, this is reportedly his “third strike” under California law, meaning he faces possible life in prison if convicted.
MADONNA BOWS TO PRESSURE, REMOVES SWASTIKA FROM “MDNA” SHOWS
Madonna has spent the better part of her current MDNA tour in her natural habitat: the center of controversy (and only partially clothed). Between public beefs with Lady Gaga and Elton John (whom, by the way, she “forgives”), her denunciations of the Russian government over Pussy Riot, and the provocative imagery at her shows, she’s swatting off a lot of flies. (Perhaps it’s her perfume.)
Anyhow, in an apparent first, it seems one of the “flies” has gotten to her. Under threat of legal action from the Front National Party, Madonna has removed an offensive swastika image from the forehead of French politician Marine Le Pen, whose face has been regularly displayed in the background video program in Madonna’s live shows. Reportedly, Le Pen’s image still appears, but now with a question mark on his forehead in place of the swastika.
Aren’t you glad we told you all this? Have a great weekend!
