Paz Lechantin Is The Pixies’ New Touring Bassist

This week, The Pixies announced the name of their new touring bassist—and she’s not named Kim.

Paz Lechantin, who has performed with multiple acts including A Perfect Circle and Zwan, will be The Pixies’ third bass player in a year, joining the band lineup for their tour beginning January 15 in Toronto. Lechantin replaces Kim Shattuck, who was let go at the end of November and shared her disappointment via Twitter. Shattuck had been with the band only four months after replacing founding member Kim Deal.

Drummer David Lovering said in a statement, “We are really looking forward to playing with her on these dates. Working with different bass players is very new for the band, but we’re having a great time doing it.”

The Pixies have also announced additional tour dates, extending their tour from January to July and covering three continents. They have also shared a new video for the song “Another Toe In the Ocean” from their recent release EP-1, with some cool animation from Liviu Boar.  See it below.

About the Author

on MUSIC IS MY OXYGEN WEEKLY.

Tim Ferrar's interest in pop and rock started as a child, listening to Top-40 radio for hours on end while playing air guitar in his bedroom. Eventually air guitar led to electric guitar, and Tim began playing in bands and writing his own songs. With an admitted weakness for "a great hook or a great guitar riff," Tim's musical tastes are broad and varied, ranging from Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga on the pop side to Bon Jovi and Foo Fighters on the rock side- making him the ideal guy to cover our Rock and Pop categories. By day, Tim is a mild-mannered accountant in Chicago. By night, he rocks out on electric guitar in a cover band in various clubs around town- much to the surprise of some of his clients.
