Park Chan-Wook is one of my favorite directors. His sense of drama, his pacing, the subjects that he chooses. I love his work. I particularly enjoy his Vengeance Trillogy. They’re Comprised of Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Old Boy, and Lady Vengeance.
Oldboy, his adaptation of an acclaimed manga of the same title, follows a man who is imprisoned for two years for no reason and then inexplicably set free.
A few American directors have been attempting to remake this film for years. There was a Will Smith version and a Steven Spielberg version too, if i’m not mistaken. Well, needless to say, they all died in development hell. That is up until Spike Lee took on the job. Well, now we’re seeing our first glimpse of the remake starring Josh Brolin.
I’m not a fan of this poster. It doesn’t say anything about the tone of the film or the story. This makes me nervous as to how this film is going to be marketed and the ultimate quality of said film.
