The new Terminator reboot trilogy, which will reportedly still feature Schwarzenegger, has officially landed Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Thor 2) as its director.
The new Terminator reboot will be titled simply ‘Terminator’ and rumors have suggested that it will take place in the past. At this point, with Taylor just coming on board, I wouldn’t be surprised if a large portion of the previously laid plans are thrown out.
There were also rumors of the Rock becoming involved in the franchise. That looks unlikely, at this point, but never say never.
Variety had this to say about the process that ended with Taylor as the head honcho:
The studio had targeted Ang Lee early on, but a deal could never be reached. Other early targets included Rian Johnson and “Prisoners” director Denis Villeneuve. In the end, Taylor won the job in helping reboot the iconic sci-fi franchise.
I’m intrigued to see what Taylor does with the already iconic franchise. Maybe, after two feature film misfires, and a canceled TV show, Taylor is just what the Terminator needs.
