Well, it looks like the 2015 Terminator film is taking a page out of the Marvel play book. The breaking news about the new Terminator reboot is that it will have a television show that will lead up to it’s release, and presumably continue after.
The Terminator franchise has floundered for decades, due in part to the fact that Terminator 2 is designed as an end for the franchise. The finale of Terminator 2 is so conclusive the only way they could continue the franchise is to break the fundamental rule of the first two films. Fate vs free will. That’s arguable the worst decision in all four feature films and the already existing television show. It breaks the universe.
That’s part of the reason that they’re rebooting the franchise. The new Terminator film will feature Arnold Schwarzenegger, in an as yet unconfirmed role and will be the first installment in a new trilogy. Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures have announced that they’re planning on starting a television show that will lead up to the reboot franchise. The show will be executive produced by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, who are writing the new feature film. The show will be run by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. If the name Ashley Miller sounds familiar it’s because she wrote X-men: First Class and Thor.
No word yet on who the show will star of how it will fit into the feature film, but we do know that they will be in continuity with each other.
