The Terminator just got a massive shot of adreniline. Arnold Schwarzenegger has just confirmed that he’s officially starring in the as yet untitled Terminator 5, and here’s the kicker, as the Terminator.
Many had supposed that if Schwarzenegger was to return to the franchise it would be as the human counterpart that the original Terminators were based on due to his age…and the fact that Terminators don’t age.
I’m hoping that the Justin Lin version of Terminator 5 is still recognizably alive in this incarnation. For those who don’t remember the proposed Terminator 5 was to incorporate various timelines from throughout the franchise. Thus, the film would use all of the actors that we know an love. Michael Behn, Schwarzenegger, Bale, Linda Hamilton, and Ed Furlong could possibly be used. No confirmation was made at the time that the idea leaked as to who was exactly coming back. This sounded like the perfect way to fix and embellish on the franchise. And a perfect way to incorporate Summer Glau’s Cameron Terminator.
I’m still hoping that this film will revolve around a very similar plot device. If for nothing else than to neuter Terminator 3’s effects of continuity. That film has done more damage than good. But I suppose the same thing could be said about Terminator: Salvation.
Arnold is quoted as having said:
“In fact, I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star AS the Terminator, which we start shooting in January and I’m also going to do King Conan – to play that role and also to do another Twins movie. So I feel very proud of that. I feel very happy and I’m looking forward to doing those films.”
The film is shooting in January? That’s not far away at all. And with no director currently attached many are assuming that we’ll be hearing more about that soon.
