Check Out The First Seven Minutes of Star Wars Rebels

A few months ago news broke that almost all of the Star Wars Extended Universe material was going to be discarded by the now Disney owned Lucasfilm. Yes, that’s right. Yes, Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command are now  out of continuity. Along with countless other video games, novels, and comics.

Disney has decided that only the six feature films, and the cartoons will be canon moving forward. This way, allowing space for new stories to be told and not hampered by 30 years of continuity. Which, as much as it pains me, is understandable.

Disney’s first Star Wars product to debut is Star Wars Rebels a new animated TV show that bridges the gap between Episode III and Episode IV.

Well, Disney has premiered the first seven minutes of the initial episode and they’re…. well, just kinda ‘meh’. I was really looking forward to this show and now I’m kinda lukewarm on it. The animation isn’t particularly good, the facial animation is wonky, and the writing is slightly sub par. It’s not a terrible show, but, judging form the first seven minutes, it’s going to take some time to really find it’s leg. Which is pretty standard for Star Wars animated content I suppose. The same thing happened with the Star Wars Clone Wars CG show. It took a bit for it to really find it’s stride.

Check out the seven minute preview for yourself below:
