Coachella 2013 Bands To Watch For: Japandroids

With Coachella 2013 less than a month away, anticipation for the two-weekend music festival in Indio, CA is certainly ramping up. If you’re planning to attend, here’s another band worth looking at: Japandroids.

The name of this band is a bit deceiving, if not confusing. They are neither from Japan, nor are they droids. Hell, they don’t even sound anime. They are, in fact, a garage-rock duo from Vancouver, BC with a punk-tinged vibe. But boy, can they make some sound with drums and guitar.

Since forming in 2006, Japandroids have released two EPs and two studio LPs, including their most recent release Celebration Rock in May 2012. They’ve also made multiple appearances on late-night television, including Conan, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Last Call with Carson Daly. They are perhaps best known for their high-energy live performances, which is why you should definitely check them out at Coachella. They are currently scheduled for both Fridays (April 12 and April 19). Meanwhile, check out their single “The House That Heaven Built” below.

David has a fascination for all things related to the music business and the music industry in general, an obsession which his wife finds to be mildly unhealthy at times. His personal tastes in music are in electronica and industrial rock, and include The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and Nine Inch Nails (he loves that Trent Reznor is writing soundtracks!). When not in his office or in his man-cave, David enjoys skiing, hiking, the occasional game of golf, and sometimes just lounging by the pool.
