David Fincher’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea appears to be stalled for the time being. The director of such films a Fight Club, Seven, The Game, Alien 3, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and The Social Network, Fincher is moving forward with an adaptation of Gillian Flyn’s novel Gone Girl. Fincher has been working with Fox to develop the film for quite some time.
The film as been given a green light and it’s got its star lined up. Mr Daredevil himself, Ben Affleck is taking the lead role. This comes off of news that Affleck will be directing an adaptation of the novel Live By Night.
Rumors are circulating about the potential envelopment of Reese Witherspoon due to the fact that she’s producing the film.
Many are asking about the future of the American Girl With A Dragon Tattoo franchise now. Will Fincher return as director? Will his departing effectively kill the franchise? Will the studio wait for him or will they try and press ahead with another director? Not much is known about the future with the GWDT franchise currently, but I don’t see Fincher coming back any time soon.
