David Goyer To Bring DC’s ‘Hellblazer’ To NBC

Hellblazer, which lasted for 300 issues at the DC imprint Vertigo, will be adapted for TV by The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, and Superman/Batman scribe David Goyer.

Hellblazer focuses on John Constantine half urban wizard, half noir detective. The series showcases Constantine’s battle with his selfish nature and otherworldly beings.

Hellblazer has already been adapted for the screen once with 2005’s Keanu Reeves vehicle Constantine. The film made decent money and wasn’t actually terrible. It was nothing like the original incarnation of John but the film as a separate entity isn’t the worst thing that’s ever been made. Here’s looking at you, Wanted.

There’s no word yet on what the new television version of Constantine will be about but it’s a safe bet to guess that it’ll be closer to the source material than the 2005 movie. Unless, y’know, they decide to make him a woman, who lives in Des Moines. Actually, I’d rather see that television show.

Can we start an online petition to change John Constantine into Joan Constantine?
