If you’re a songwriter looking for publishing and placement opportunities (as well as helpful industry critique), one of the best places you can connect is at the Durango Songwriters Expo, which takes place in various locations several times a year. This weekend, the DSE will take place October 3-5 in Broomfield, Colorado, just north of Denver.
Hailed as one of the best expos of its kind, the DSE is particularly known for its relaxed, intimate setting, one in which up-and-coming songwriters and musical artists can connect directly with dozens of prominent music industry professionals, get helpful instruction, advice and critique, and sometimes even ink publishing and song placement deals as a direct result. Music producers, music supervisors, A&R representatives, royalty rights representatives, and other industry pros are regular attendees and contributors to these events.
Among the daily events at the DSE are panel discussions on relevant topics, evening showcases and performances, late-night open mics, and more. One of the most powerful elements of the Expo is the listening sessions, where panels of industry representatives listen to music from the artists and offer helpful critique. (It is not uncommon for these sessions to result in song placement and/or publishing deals.)
This weekend’s Durango Songwriters Expo will take place at the Omni Interlocken Resort, 500 Interlocken Blvd. in Broomfield. The Omni is offering special rates to DSE guests. To maintain its intimate setting, the Expo is limited to 200 registrants, but there are still a few openings at press time. Registration begins Thursday afternoon.
If you have the time to make it out, it’s well worth the $299 fee to have this kind of industry exposure. For all the details and a schedule of events, visit the Durango Songwriters Expo website.
