MIMO - When Music is Your Fix

Durango Songwriters Expo: October 4-6 in Broomfield, Colorado

We mentioned this last month, but just as a reminder: if you’re a singer/songwriter who wants to learn and grow, there’s still time for you to register for this year’s Durango Songwriter’s Expo, which takes place next weekend in Broomfield, Colorado just north of Denver.

An intimate setting for a limited number of participants, the DSE is a three-day event that allows songwriters to interact with over 40 different music industry executives, many of whom are actively shopping for new song placements. The expo features workshops, panel discussions, and listening sessions where songwriters can play their recorded material for industry professionals who offer helpful critique. There are also opportunities for songwriters to perform, through pre-scheduled evening showcases, as well as late-night open mics.

This year’s Durango Songwriters Expo will feature noted songwriters with award-winning songwriting credits, like Al Anderson, Tim Fagan, and James Otto; music supervisors for E!, Starz, ABC/Disney, and others; A&R label reps for Capitol Records, Atlantic and Universal; and reps from SESAC, ASCAP and BMI, among others.

The DSE will take place at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield. The three-day event costs $299 and includes several time slots to participate in listening sessions. The Omni is offering special rates for those who opt to stay on-site. You can get full details about the conference, including an application and submission guidelines, by clicking here. Jeff McQ is a songwriter/composer/musician with a diverse resume that includes everything from directing music in church to scoring short films. In addition to his role as chief editor for Music Is My Oxygen (and writing our DIY Musician Channel), Jeff also covers the local music scene for Examiner.com in his hometown of Denver, Colorado, and maintains The Developing Artist [http://artistdevelopmentblog.com], a blog dedicated to offering advice and encouragement to indie musicians.

When he's not tinkering in his home studio or blogging for hours on his laptop at the local coffee shop (to the annoyance of the baristas), Jeff McQ enjoys taking in local shows, going on road trips, wandering aimlessly, and talking to himself.
