MIMO - When Music is Your Fix

Festival Preview: Bonnaroo 2012, June 7-10

The spring and summer music festival season is now well underway, and the next “big gig” is Bonnaroo, the massive four-day annual outdoor music and arts festival in Manchester, TN. This year’s festival gets underway next weekend, June 7-10, and at “press time,” 4-day wristbands are still available for $259 per person (just in case you want to get your act together and get over there).

Bonnaroo started eleven years ago as mainly a folk rock/jam band kind of thing, but has since expanded to include a wide diversity of acts in genres ranging from rock to bluegrass to electronic and hip-hop. This year’s lineup includes well over 100 different acts, including both up-and-coming indie acts and national headliners. Here is just a sampling of who’s playing Bonnaroo this year:

  • Bon Iver
  • The Beach Boys
  • Radiohead
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • The Shins
  • Feist
  • The Civil Wars
  • Avett Brothers
  • Ben Folds Five
  • Childish Gambino
  • Needtobreathe
  • Fitz & the Tantrums
  • Fun.
  • Foster the People
  • St. Vincent
  • Here We Go Magic
  • Punch Brothers
  • Sara Watkins
  • Grouplove
  • Trampled By Turtles
  • Young the Giant
  • Alabama Shakes

…and many others.

For those interested in going to Bonnaroo this year (and/or catching the latest news from afar), you can get the latest updates from the Bonnaroo website. To whet your appetite, for today only (June 2), Mumford and Sons’ entire concert set from last year’s Bonnaroo is available for viewing, courtesy of the Bonnaroo365 YouTube channel. (I’ve embedded the vid below.) What’s more, live web streaming of concert events will be available on Bonnaroo’s Official YouTube channel during June 8-10, so if you can’t make it out, you can at least enjoy some of the music.

About the Author

Tim Ferrar's interest in pop and rock started as a child, listening to Top-40 radio for hours on end while playing air guitar in his bedroom. Eventually air guitar led to electric guitar, and Tim began playing in bands and writing his own songs. With an admitted weakness for "a great hook or a great guitar riff," Tim's musical tastes are broad and varied, ranging from Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga on the pop side to Bon Jovi and Foo Fighters on the rock side- making him the ideal guy to cover our Rock and Pop categories. By day, Tim is a mild-mannered accountant in Chicago. By night, he rocks out on electric guitar in a cover band in various clubs around town- much to the surprise of some of his clients.
