When I was six years old if you’d have told me that there’d be one feature length G.I. Joe movie I’d have been extremely excited. If you told me there’d be two, I’d probably have passed out. If six year old me found out that Paramount had just hired a screenwriter for the third film, I’d probably have pooped myself.
Unfortunately, adult me doesn’t share the same enthusiasm as child me. G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra got everything about Joe wrong. Just straight up wrong. G.I. Joe: Retaliation made up some ground. The film is still really bad, but at least they got the Joe specific elements of the story right.
With the announcement of Paramount green lighting Joe 3 and rehiring director John M Chu, I find myself with slightly hopeful. Today, it was announced that Paramount has hired screewriter Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) to create an initial draft of the film. No word yet on any returning characters or new characters showing up.
Personally, I’m hoping for a Recondo, Snowjob, and Shipwreck road-trip comedy. We’ll see what happens.
