This news bodes quite well for a band that was virtually unknown a year ago. HAIM, the R&B/rock sister act who has made waves all summer long on the festival scene, released their debut album the same day as current R&B pop king Justin Timberlake released his followup to The 20/20 Experience—and outsold him in Britain.
As NME and Billboard report, HAIM’s release Days Are Gone spent much of last week gaining on JT’s The 20/20 Experience—2 of 2 on the UK album sales charts, trailing by 700 units, then by only 28, before finally pulling ahead over the weekend to outsell the superstar by 2100 units. (Brings back memories of a certain presidential election here in the States back in 2000; anyone demanding a recount?)
HAIM has admittedly been quite popular across the pond thus far. Three singles off the debut album have already been on the UK Top 40, and the band was a crowd fave at this summer’s Glastonbury and other festivals. Looks as though the work ethic has been paying off.
No word as of yet as to how Days Are Gone is doing on the U.S. charts, but it will be interesting to see how the buzz overseas affects sales here. You can read our review of the album here.
