Heart fans, listen up: the consummate chick-rock band of the 1970s-80s has announced a June 5 release for a collector’s edition box-set anthology entitled Strange Euphoria. The material on this 3-CD (plus one DVD) collection has reportedly been personally chosen by Ann and Nancy Wilson, according to a news post on the band’s website.
More than a simple anthology of hits, Strange Euphoria is sure to be a treasure trove for die-hard Heart fans. The Wilson sisters have indicated that besides a collection of fan faves over the years, the box set will include plenty of deep cuts and rarities, including demos and live performances most fans have not heard/seen. Says Ann Wilson, “In this box we have included many things that until now have never seen the light of day.” Included in the collection are personal notes from the Wilson sisters, including song-by-song commentary and stories.
While being primarily remembered for their heyday years in the 1980s, Heart has enjoyed over three decades of success as a band, selling a lifetime 35 million records. Their most recent full-length release Red Velvet Car (2010) hit the Billboard 200 chart at a respectable Number 10. The band continues a regular tour schedule to this day.
What makes this such a significant collector’s item for Heart fans is the fact that never before have the Wilsons hand-picked the material for such a collection, or made such rarities available to the public. As such, Strange Euphoria probably represents as personal an expression from Heart as the public is ever likely to experience. This collection literally comes (pardon the pun)…from the Heart.
Strange Euphoria is scheduled to hit shelves on June 5, 2012. Heart will follow up with a string of summer tour dates.
