Rick Remender’s run on Captain America has been a tad hit or miss, according to readers. Many have complained that the Dimension Z storyline went on for far too long. However, in a newly revealed twist, there will be a new character taking over the mantle of Captain America.
Steve Rogers, now stripped of his super soldier serum, is taking on a different role in the book. Remender, the writer of the comic had this to say:
“He’s waging war from a room rather than the front lines, which is new for Steve,” said Remender. “Steve’s going to continue to play a role in the series as a mentor and tactician and eye in the sky, runing ops and things. He’s got all his faculties and is still the super soldier he earned the right to be called; he just lacks the physical form.”
The obvious contender for the role of Captain America in the comic book is Sam Wilson aka The Falcon. The question would then jump to mind is this a maneuver by Marvel Comics to get fans ready for a Captain America movie starring the Falcon as Cap? I, for one, hope so.
It’s highly unlikely though. As Sebastian Stan, the actor who plays Bucky/The Winter Soldier, has a reported nine picture deal with Marvel Studios. The obvious extension being that after Avengers 3 Bucky will take over being Cap. Which falls in line with that happened in the comics and what Chris Evans has said in interviews.
Only time will tell if Cap, Sam Wilson, and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will collide in the ways that everyone is suggesting.
