Days after it was reported that Jack White had made a sizeable donation to the National Recording Preservation Foundation, he’s in the news for a not-so-noble reason. At the request of White’s estranged wife Karen Elson, last week a Nashville circuit court judge issued a restraining order against Jack White forbidding the rocker to have “any contact with wife whatsoever except as it relates to parenting time with the parties’ minor children.”
The restraining order apparently stems from the couple’s disagreement over custody of the children. The request for the restraining order filed by Elson’s attorney contains a number of specific allegations, including “bullying” behavior, harassing and threatening emails, and demands to have the children removed from a particular class over claims that the parent of another classmate “ripped off” White’s music. The document alleges a consistent negative behavior pattern from White, who has a reputation for a violent temper and has had prior run-ins with the law for brawling.
These recent developments indicate a turn for the worse in divorce proceedings that had previously been reportedly amicable. The couple even threw a “divorce party” for themselves in 2011.
A hearing is scheduled for August 29.
