(HT: The DIY Musician) So much of what DIY musicians do to promote themselves feels like shooting in the dark—throwing a bunch of mud on the wall and seeing what sticks. This can waste a lot of valuable time and energy, but it seems like par for the course. Thankfully, CD Baby has been good enough to release an interview on YouTube with Jason Feinberg, VP of Digital Strategy and Development for Concord Music Group, in which Feinberg offers some extremely practical and valuable “straight talk” about the realities of direct-to-fan music marketing, as well as advice for independent music marketing in general.
Conducted at the 2012 Bandwidth Music Technology Conference, in this interview Feinberg confronts the idea that digital technology has leveled the playing field for indie musicians, following up with solid advice on how DIY musicians can use the tools at their disposal to their best advantage. I highly recommend watching the entire 24-minute interview embedded below. As an added bonus, look below the video embedded for a few additional links to even more helpful advice found around the Interwebs this week. Enjoy!
