Justin Bieber Arrested in Miami for DUI, Drag Racing

Pop star Justin Bieber was arrested early Thursday morning in Miami after being pulled over for allegedly drag racing in a rented yellow Lamborghini and subsequently failing a field sobriety test, according to local authorities.

Confirmation of Bieber’s arrest first broke just before 5:00 am local time via the Miami Beach Police Twitter account:

The Miami Herald is reporting that according to police, Bieber met the officers with a string of profanity, admitting to having “a beer,” but also admitting to smoking pot and taking anti-depressants all day prior to the incident.  Police Chief Raymond Martinez told the Herald that tests had confirmed that Bieber was under the influence of drugs.

Bieber had allegedly been drag racing with another driver near Pine Tree Drive at 26th Street in Miami Beach, and members of his entourage reportedly used their vehicles to block traffic so the two could race.  The other driver, reportedly in a rented red Ferrari, was identified as R&B singer Khalil Sharief, who was also arrested.

As the Orlando Sun-Sentinel reports, Justin Bieber has been charged with DUI, driving with an expired license and resisting arrest without violence, according to Miami Beach Police Detective Vivian Hernandez. Sharief has been charged with DUI. Both were in  the process of being booked at press time, and will be held by authorities for a minimum of eight hours from the time of arrest.
