Jon Spaights the writer, or should I say the co-writer, of Prometheus became a name around Hollywood he due to a spec script that he wrote a few years ago titled Passengers. Keanu liked it and , if memory serves correct, became financially involved with the script. Well, nothing happened. The script just lay dormant while Spaights went on to write Prometheus. Sort of.
Well, it looks like thanks to the success of Gravity that Passengers is getting a second chance at life.
The official synopsis of Passengers is ‘A spacecraft transporting thousands of people to a distant colony planet has a malfunction in one of its sleep chambers. As a result, a single passenger (Reeves) is awakened 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he eventually decides to wake up a second passenger (McAdams), marking the beginning of what becomes a unique love story.’
Rachel McAdams has come onboard to star as Keanu’s romantic interest in the film. Here’s hoping that the finished film is as good as the draft I read many months ago.
