Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures have had a successful 8 year run. They’ve put together the Dark Knight Trilogy, the Hangover Trilogy, Inception, Watchmen, Due Date, and other films that grossed a lot of money but people didn’t really like. The Warners/Legendary partnership has generated over 8 billion in sales.
Reports indicate that Legendary is moving quickly. They’re shooting to have a new studio partnership set up before the 4th of July. Fox, Sony, and Universal are all supposedly interested in pairing up with Legendary. Supposedly one of the reasons that LEgendary is parting ways with Warners is that Legendary wants to branch out into television, comics, and digital. We’ll see how that goes.
Don’t weep too hard for Warners. This could be a good thing for them. The studio is looking to exploit their DC properties more heavily. Without Legendary’s involvement we might actually get some comic book movies that are good and don’t end with Superman killing someone. Here’s hoping we get some fun comic book movies out of DC/Warners. Plastic man? Can we please get a Plastic man movie?
Expect more news to flow quickly.
