Marvel taking the ratings success of Agents of Shield and running with it seems pretty obvious. We’ve already heard that the House of Mouse and the House of Ideas are planning an Agent Carter television show, based on their short film from the Iron Man 3 DVD, but supposedly they’re woking on four new series and a mini series.
Marvel’s catalogue is chock full of characters that would be perfect for television. The fact that they now own the rights to the Punisher, Blade, and Daredevil only increases my interest in what they’re going to do on television.
Supposedly Marvel isn’t even going to try ABC with these new shows, they’re taking these shows out to cable, streaming services, and even talking to WGN America.
If Marvel’s smart, which they are, they’ll mix up the shows between ‘named’ super hero characters like Blade and the Punisher and more obscure characters like Iron Fist and Cloak and Dagger.
The fact that Marvel is looking to throw together something like 60 episodes of programming is both impressive and a tad questionable. There’s no rush. Better to take the time and do it right. Hopefully these new shows won’t be as bland as Agents of Shield.
