Peter Gabriel to Release “And I’ll Scratch Yours” in September

At the outset, it looks like Peter Gabriel is releasing his own tribute record. However, that’s not really what’s going on here. Gabriel’s latest cover album, And I’ll Scratch Yours, may be other artists covering his tunes, but it serves as a follow-up to 2010’s Scratch My Back (catch the wordplay here?), in which Gabriel made the first gesture, performing covers of other artists he admires.

In fact, all but four of the artists covered on Scratch My Back (namely, Neil Young, David Bowie, Radiohead and Ray Davies) return the courtesy on And I’ll Scratch Yours. As Prog Magazine reports, Gabriel stated in 2011 that he had essentially “given up waiting” on these folks. Thus, the remaining gaps have been filled by other artists willing to step in, such as Feist, Brian Eno and Joseph Arthur, to complete a 12-track record of Peter Gabriel covers.

And I’ll Scratch Yours is slated for a September 23 release. The full announced track list is below.

1. I Don’t Remember (David Byrne)

2. Come Talk to Me (Bon Iver)

3. Blood of Eden (Regina Spektor)

4. Not One of Us (Stephin Merritt)

5. Shock the Monkey (Joseph Arthur)

6. Big Time (Randy Newman)

7. Games without Frontiers (Arcade Fire)

8. Mercy Street (Elbow)

9. Mother of Violence (Brian Eno)

10. Don’t Give Up (Feist featuring Timber Timbre)

11. Solsbury Hill (Lou Reed)

12: Biko (Paul Simon)

About the Author

Tim Ferrar's interest in pop and rock started as a child, listening to Top-40 radio for hours on end while playing air guitar in his bedroom. Eventually air guitar led to electric guitar, and Tim began playing in bands and writing his own songs. With an admitted weakness for "a great hook or a great guitar riff," Tim's musical tastes are broad and varied, ranging from Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga on the pop side to Bon Jovi and Foo Fighters on the rock side- making him the ideal guy to cover our Rock and Pop categories. By day, Tim is a mild-mannered accountant in Chicago. By night, he rocks out on electric guitar in a cover band in various clubs around town- much to the surprise of some of his clients.
