Nicolas Winding Refn is currently attached to a few projects, none of which are moving along at light speed. He’s attached to a psudeo-prequel to Valhalla Rising titled The Avenging Silence, a Barbarella television adaptation, and he was attached to the Logan’s Run remake, but that just fell apart.
For some time now Winding Refn has talked about making an ‘all-female horror’ film that contains ‘lots of sex’. The film’s working title is ‘I walk with the dead’ and that about all we know about it. Recently noted english playwright Polly Stenham was hired by Refn to pen the film. It’s currently unclear if she’s writing because he doesn’t have the time or doesn’t feel that his skills are up to the challenge of crafting complex female characters.
Previously, Carey Mulligan was signed on to either star or co-star in the film. It’s unclear if that’s still on the table. In an interview Stenham talked about the project and Refn saying:
‘He’s got a lot of stick for doing films some people think are violently misogynistic. So he approached me with the idea of doing something different.’
Here’s looking forward to Refn stretching his wings a bit. I can’t wait to see it.
