Ryan Reynolds Leaves Highlander Reboot

Someone give Adrian Paul a phone call and see if he’s interested in picking up the sword again because Summit Entertainment is going to need a new leading man.

Ryan Reynolds has been attached to star in the long in-development remake/reboot of the Highlander franchise. This is essentially the death sentence for this reboot. After attached Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo left many were worried about the reboot. Well, now that the star has officially left it’s either going to go one of two ways. A new director will become attached who was previously staying away because of Reynolds or the project will finally die.

I’m fine with Reynolds. I know some really hate him. But this project never seemed like it was a good fit for him. I’m hoping due to the recent success of the Evil Dead reboot they change the film so it’s a soft reboot. A new character who learns that he’s a highlander. I’d be willing to bet that most people wouldn’t even know the difference. Yes, the Highlander continuity is a cluster-fuck, but the first one is so good that you might as well leave it alone. Just call the reboot Highlander and have at it. It’s not like having the protagonist being named Connor Macleod is really going to put butts in the seats.

Hopefully this means that there indeed can only be one, and Summit Entertainment just hasn’t found him yet.
