For those Jet [http://www.jettheband.com] fans waiting for the Aussie rockers to come off their hiatus, apparently their last show was…well…their last show.
Jet recently released a simple statement in the “news” portion of their website.
“After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group. From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and goodnight.”
Short, sweet and to the point. No other details. Comments disabled.
Jet first formed in Australia in 2001, and achieved worldwide fame for their garage retro-rock sound with their debut LP Get Born, which achieved platinum status in the US and UK, and 8x Platinum in Australia. Over their 10-year run, Jet recorded three studio albums, two EPs and one compilation. Most memorable hits from the band include the rockers “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” and “Cold Hard Bitch,” and the haunting ballad “Look What You’ve Done.”
The band had recently gone on hiatus after touring through 2010, while two of the band mates, Mark Wilson and Chris Cester, formed a side “doom-disco” act called DAMNDOGS. Apparently, the band decided to make the hiatus permanent.
So goodnight, Jet, and thanks for all the music. You will be missed.
