It was announced earlier this week that Shane Black would be directing a new installment of the Predator franchise. It was also revealed that his long time collaborator Fred Dekker would be scripting the film, based off a treatment from black. Initial reports had the film as a direct reboot/remake of the classic 1987 film.
Well, apparently one of those tidbits wasn’t actually accurate. In talking with collider Black elaborated on the nature of the Predator film that he and Dekker will be making. He uses the term “inventive sequel”.
Does that mean a soft reboot or a total shift or a return of Adrian Brody’s character from Predators? Who knows.
He says he’d rather invest his time and energy in “the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”
Which, honestly, is exactly what someone like me wants to hear. This is the absolute best way to approach this type of film. It’s the exact way to make this movie and have it still be viable.
