Days after finally announcing a firm release date for her debut album Night Time, My Time, pop songstress Sky Ferreira has found herself in the news for the wrong reasons. According to numerous reports, on Friday night she and DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith were pulled over by police in Saugerties, NY and consequently arrested on a number of drug-related and other charges.
The bulk of the charges were levied against Smith, who was driving the vehicle, allegedly without a license. The plates on the pickup truck the couple were traveling in were also reportedly stolen, and a search of the vehicle uncovered a plastic bag containing 42 decks of heroin (less than half an ounce). Smith was charged with 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance, unlicensed driving, driving without insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle and having an inadequate exhaust system—all misdemeanor offenses. Ferreira was charged twice, for allegedly possessing Ecstasy on her person, and for resisting arrest.
The pair were taken to Saugerties Village Court for arraignment and sent to Ulster County Jail. Both have since been released on bail.
Ferreira has for the moment remained silent concerning the weekend’s events, but yesterday Smith took to DIIV’s Twitter account to share his side of it:
what you're reading is a police blotter, not the outcome of a court case. these cops wanted to fuck us, and they did. sky did nothing wrong.

Ferreira is scheduled to begin a tour with Vampire Weekend on September 19.
