Slipknot To Host “Knotfest” in Iowa, Wisconsin

Iowa-based metal icons Slipknot have announced their first curated festival, Knotfest.

Scheduled for successive dates on August 17th and 18th in Council Bluffs, Iowa and Somerset, Wisconsin (on the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota), the all-day festival features headlining performances from the band, as well as a formidable list of support acts. All of the following will be taking part in the fun:

Lamb of God

Serj Tankian (from System of a Down)

Cannibal Corpse

The Urge

The Dillinger Escape Plan

…and more acts expected to be announced shortly.

This was a big announcement for Slipknot – the unexpected death of bassist Paul Gray in 2010 cast the group’s future in jeopardy, as front man Corey Taylor moved on to a successful solo  tour and released a book called Seven Deadly Sins – Settling The Argument Between Born Bad And Damaged Good.

While members of Slipknot have remained cryptic about the chances of a new studio album (which would be their first since 2008’s All Hope is Gone), the Knotfest reveal implies that things are back in action in the Slipknot camp.

As Shawn Crahan (or Clown) told Rolling Stone, “It’s time for us to really engulf this idea known as Knotfest where we’re in control, we make a day devoted to our mindset, our ideas, the people that we want to play with, the people that we think our fans want to be around.”

Further, as the festival’s website mysteriously details,

At nightfall, all bets are off! The PAGAN world WILL go off in a riotous mindf***!

Fire and light WILL blur your senses. You WILL feel and smell the sickness. The smell of KNOTFEST alone WILL cling to your attire for months to come.

Tickets for Knotfest will go on sale this Friday, June 8th, at 10 AM local time.

About the Author

Adrian's love for music stemmed at an early age - but it wasn't until attending a Red Hot Chili Peppers gig in 1999 at the age of 15 that it blossomed to the all-encompassing obsession it is today. Since that fateful night in San Francisco, he has probably spent enough money on concerts to buy a few cars (not that he'd be likely to appreciate that fact). Not interested in pigeon-holing himself to one genre or type of music, he has an eclectic taste that is just as likely to make him hit up a Slayer gig as a Jack White concert. Warped Tour became a yearly pilgrimage for him in the early 2000s, immersing himself in the punk & metal world as only Warped can (for better and worse). Today, living in Los Angeles, he usually ends up going to 5-6 concerts per month, on average, which further cements his music appreciation, to the detriment of his bank account. He writes for a few different online magazines/websites, and is always hungry for new music (to the point of unhealthy obsession, some might say).
