Over the past weekend a bidding war for Alex Berg’s latest script Section 6 took place. The ultimate result was that Universal won the right to make the film for around a million dollars. Now that the rights have been secured, the studio is quickly approaching talent to bring the picture to fruition.
Interestingly enough one of the premier names being bandied about this project is Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman. The film centers on the formation of the British spy agency known as MI6 and it’s commanding officer, Sir George Mansfield Cummings. Cummings is, in fact, the person that Ian Fleming based James Bond’s mentor and supervisor M on.
Due to the fact that this project is very hot right now, directors are also being approached. Key among them is Justin Lin, of Fast and Furious fame, and Bret Ratner, of Rush Hour and X-men 3: The Last Stand.
Here’s hoping that this project stays away from either of those names. I’m a big Justin Lin fan, but this doesn’t sound like a good fit for him. And Ratner? He should just stop making movies. Period.
