Over 2000 bands, from all over the world, playing in the same town over several days. That should be enough to get the attention of any music aficionado.
Now in its 27th year, SXSW (South By Southwest), arguably the largest annual indie festival on the planet, is now just a month away. Taking place in Austin, Texas, between March 8-17, SXSW 2013 promises to draw crowds in the hundreds of thousands who are coming to attend the Interactive, Film and Music facets of the festival. The Music portion alone is scheduled for March 12-17, and will feature (I’ll say it again) two thousand-plus acts in over a hundred venues throughout the downtown Austin area—not to mention dozens of speakers and panel discussions. It’s a dream event for musicians and music lovers alike.
This annual Austin festival draws so many bands that SXSW has to organize the schedule by an interactive search on their website, simply because there are far too many to keep track of. That doesn’t even include the “unofficial” showcases hosted throughout the area, nor the many surprises you find along the way.
This week, SXSW unveiled its official lineup, which you can access here. Just a few of the more notable acts on the bill this year include Vampire Weekend, Toro Y Moi, Sky Ferreira, The Flaming Lips, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, The Airborne Toxic Event, Ra Ra Riot, Killer Mike, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Tegan and Sara, Fitz & the Tantrums, Alpha Rev, Churchill, Ben Sollee, Angel Haze, Less than Jake, Matt Nathanson, Civil Twilight, Ozomatli, Charlotte Church, Modestep, DIIV, Alt-J…and that doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface.
Needless to say, a festival this size requires a wide variety of badges. You can get a badge for just the music, film, or interactive portions, or badges that give you access to everything. Check the SXSW website for all the details.
