Rihanna, Paul McCartney, Kanye West Debut ‘FourFiveSeconds’

Now here’s an odd duck trio.  Paul McCartney, Kanye West and badgalriri, Ms. Rihanna herself, have debuted their latest single, “FourFiveSeconds.” First of all, let’s pause.  Former Beatle Paul McCartney is suddenly breaking into hip-pop. Not that he hasn’t done so before; Sir Paul dipped his toe into hip-hop earlier this year with “Only One,” his collabo with Kanyeezy earlier this year. Way to stay relevant, icon. But back to […]

Kanye West Teams with Paul McCartney on ‘Only One’

Starting the New Year right, one of our fave hip-hop artists jumps into 2015 with an emotional duet, “Only One.”  Following in the famous footsteps of Michael Jackson, Kanye West teamed up with former Beatle Paul McCartney to create a sweet ode to his “chosen one.” The two came together in Los Angeles for a “simple brainstorming session,” that morphed into Paul riffing on the piano and Kanye sketching the […]

Sir Paul McCartney, 71, was hospitalized in a Tokyo hospital after a viral illness caused him to cancel tour dates in Japan and South Korea earlier this week. USA Today reports (via The Sankei Sports newspaper in Japan) that the former Beatle was admitted to the hospital after canceling the tour dates when his condition worsened.  However, Sir Paul has reportedly responded well to treatment; he is expected to recover […]

The Beatles’ Grammy Salute Does Justice to Fab Four

Sunday night on CBS, The Recording Academy hosted a special “Grammy salute” concert event called “The Beatles: The Night That Changed America,” in commemoration of 50 years to the day that The Beatles first performed on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Let’s be honest here: to ask a bunch of current musical celebrities to cover The Beatles in front of the two surviving Beatles is a daunting prospect in […]

The Everly Brothers

Paul McCartney, Others Pay Tribute to Phil Everly

To put it lightly, when a former Beatle refers to you as one of his “heroes” and says he was “star-struck” when meeting you, that’s saying something. Check out what Sir Paul McCartney wrote on his Facebook page about Phil Everly, the younger half of the Everly Brothers, who passed away last weekend: “Phil Everly was one of my great heroes. With his brother Don, they were one of the […]

Best Pop and Rock Albums of 2013

I gotta be honest—I had a hard time finding a whole lot to love about this year’s pop and rock offerings.  I gave some good reviews to albums in both genres, but even then, I often based it on respect for the work more than personal enjoyment. However, when I liked something—I found I really liked it. There were a few from newer or current acts, but interestingly, a number […]

Paul McCartney “New” –Album Review

Hear Music/Concord Music Group (2013)

When a rock icon like Paul McCartney releases a new album, it always presents a dilemma for music reviewers like me. What the hell are you gonna say negative about Paul McCartney? It’s friggin’ Paul McCartney! See my point? If you listen to the album and don’t think it’s awesome, it would almost be better to gloss over it than to actually review it. Thankfully, with his sixteenth (!) solo […]

Paul McCartney Surprises New York—Twice

Sir Paul McCartney seems to get a kick out of surprising people, particularly in New York. This week, in promotion of his upcoming album New, the ex-Beatle and current music icon surprised audiences with pop-up shows, not once, but twice. The first surprise show took place Wednesday at a high school assembly, of all places. Students of the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Queens were called in to […]

Paul McCartney Releases “New” Single

Album of same name to drop October 15

Sir Paul McCartney has got to be the coolest and busiest musical legend on the planet, with no signs of slowing down. In just the past year, he helped David Grohl with his Sound City film project, performed with the reunited surviving members of Nirvana, and has continued to tour relentlessly. Now, it appears we’re gonna get some “new” music. (Oh, yes, the puns be a-flyin’.) This week, McCartney has […]

It’s already being touted as one of the largest gatherings of big-name rock musicians for one concert in recent history. 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief featured not just The Who, but a who’s-who of rock and pop icons from the past several decades. In a show lasting over 6 hours, the Madison Square Garden event (simulcast in movie theaters, on television, satellite radio and streaming Internet outlets across the […]
