Well, things sure are heating up quickly in the case of Terminator 5.
Today we’re hearing that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will be starring in the Terminator 5, opposite Schwartzenegger. We’re hearing reports that The Rock will in fact be the robot and Arnold will be a human who is in charge of protecting the Connor bloodline. And now for the crazy part… It’s supposedly going to take place in the 1940’s or 50’s.
A gangster era prequel?
This is radically different than any of the other news we’ve heard over the last few months, including last week when Arnold himself said he’d be playing the cyborg Connor-hunter.
I’m a bit confused. I’m all for The Rock jumping into the franchise. His involvement with Joe and Fast & Furious have been delightful. But this doesn’t seem to be correct, to me.
The WWE Examiner, who broke the story had this to say:
“Incredibly, Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger’s remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today’s standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination.”
If they do go in this direction with it, I’m still holding out that they keep the divergent timelines idea from the previous incarnation. I want Michael Behn and Christian Bale and Linda Hamilton and Summer Glau all in one movie, damnit. Let’s make this happen.
