Katsuhiro Otomo’s manga and anime Akira is a globally recognized phenomenon. The film and manga have been accepted and lauded by generations of filmmakers and fans alike. The films bleak and gritty esthetic has informed numerous cyber punk and post apocalyptic stories. Along with the fact that the film is easily regarded as one of the most important animated films of all time.

Well, now a group of fans have banded together in order to produce a live-action version of Otomo’s seminal classic. They’ve raised money from crowd sourcing and they’ve completed a trailer. Check it out.
