Most A-list super heroes have an actor that is associated with them. Wolverine has Hugh Jackman, Superman has Christopher Reeves, Iron Man has Robert Downey Jr. The Flash, on the other hand, does not. Of course the Flash has appeared on screen before, in animated and live action, but he just hasn’t had a massive main stream hit.
Thanks to the success of Arrow, the CW is looking to make a Flash television show. They have their Barry Allen, and a plethora of other actors, all lined up. This week a strange and wonderful announcement was made, actor John Wesley Shipp, who played the Flash in the short lived live action television series from the 90’s, will be joining the cast in a mysterious role for the pilot. If the series is picked up, it’s assumed that he’ll be a recurring character.
Who is the mysterious character that he’s playing? No real announcements yet, but I’d wager heavily that it’s going to be Jay Garrick, the original Flash.
The show stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen. The rest of the cast includes Candice Patton as Iris West, Jesse L. Martin as Iris’s father, Detective West, Rick Gosnett as Central City Police Detective Eddie Thawne, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, Danielle Panabaker as S.T.A.R. Labs bioengineer Caitlin Snow and Tom Cavanagh as S.T.A.R. Labs CEO Harrison Wells.
