It seems like a bi-annual event at this point. The He-man and the Master of the Universe movie is rumbling to life, yet again. This time John M. Chu’s name isn’t attached to the project. So, at least there’s that.
The famous saturday morning cartoon turned pop culture icon turned would-be block buster tentpole is staggering back to life. This time the film is preparedly close to actually being put into production and supposedly there’s a real directors short list.
The short list that we’re hearing is as follows:
Joe Cornish (Attack the Block)
Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick, Breaking Bad)
Andy Muschietti (Mama)
Kirk DeMicco & Chris Sanders (The Croods)
Phil Lord and Chris Miller ( 21 Jump Street)
It’s an interesting list to say the least. The fact that the style of directors ranges from Cornicsh to DeMicco and Sanders is pretty interesting. If you’d said that the guys who directed The Croods would be up for a Masters of the Universe movie, I’d have laughed in your face. But hey. If I’ve learned anything from Sean Connery it’s Never Say Never.
