Tim McGraw, Miranda Lambert Lead 2014 ACM Nominations

ACM Awards to take place April 6 in Las Vegas

Fresh on the heels of last week’s Grammy Awards, the Academy of Country Music (ACM) has unveiled its list of nominees for the upcoming 2014 ACM Awards on April 6—and Tim McGraw and Miranda Lambert are leading the pack.

The two country artists snagged seven nominations each, although McGraw is absent from some of the top nods.  Lambert is up for Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year, among other nominations, while McGraw’s nods are primarily related to the music itself (Album of the Year, Single of the Year) and in particular his performance of “Highway Don’t Care” with Taylor Swift and Keith Urban.

Speaking of Keith Urban, the Aussie country singer trails slightly behind Lambert and McGraw with six total nominations.  Blake Shelton (who will co-host the ACM’s again with Luke Bryan) follows closely behind with five nods, competing with wife Miranda Lambert in the Entertainer of the Year category.  Also with five nominations are newcomer and recent Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves, along with Taylor Swift.

Remember, country fans will once again be choosing New Artist of the Year. First-round voting for the nominees is currently open at VoteACM.com or GACtv.com/ACM.

About the Author

Music blogger Rob Burkhardt has been a fan of country music since he was a child, cutting his teeth on the sounds of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Reba McIntyre and George Jones. In the words of the now-legendary Barbara Mandrell song, he was "country when country wasn't cool." Nowadays, Rob is both intrigued and excited about the mainstream crossover appeal of modern country, as seen in the success of artists like Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts and Lady Antebellum. Even so, Rob's personal tastes in country music remain "old school," tied to the great legends of country. When he's not blogging about country music, Rob Burkhardt holds a day job as a middle school teacher, and is an avid sports fan. He lives with his wife and two teenage girls in southern Ohio.
