With Angelina Jolie apparently out of the running and, honestly, probably not even interested in reprising her role, MGM has decided to give the Tomb Raider franchise another go at the silver screen. Part of me is extremely happy about this and part of me is really sad. The first two Tomb Raider movies were not good but they seemed like they’d eventually hit the right tone and nail it. Unfortunately they just never did. I really liked Jolie as adventurer and globe trotter Lara Croft. I was hoping that she’d eventually come back to the franchise. But, alas, it is not meant to be.
MGM is looking to do a big budget reboot of the franchise and while no cast or director have signed on yet they have hired a writer. Marti Noxon (Fright Night, I Am Number Four) will have the scripting duties. I’m not really a big fan of either of those movies so right out the gate, I’m not feeling stellar about this reboot.
Apparently the film will center around, ““archaeologist Lara Croft as she sets off on one of her international adventures.”
We’ll see what happens with this project as time progresses. It definitely has me rooting for it.
