After the unfortunately untimely demise of famed director Tony Scott many completely gave up hope of ever seeing a sequel to the Tom Cruise starring film titled Top Gun. The incarnation of the project that fell apart when Scott passed away was purportedly centered around the adrenaline fueled lives of Drone pilots.
Well, apparently the project hasn’t completely fallen apart. Jerry Bruckheimer was recently asked about the future of the franchise to which he replied…
“For 30 years we’ve been trying to make a sequel and we’re not going to stop. We still want to do it with Tom [Cruise] and Paramount are still interested in making it.”
In the wake of box office less-than-successes Oblivion and Jack Reacher Cruise has been acting a bit gun shy about taking on new franchises. He just dropped out of Man From U.N.C.L.E. to film Mission Impossible 5: The Built-In Audience.
Top Gun may not be a full blown franchise but it has legions of fans that love the film both ironically and un-ironically. If the film Actually does get made it would seem reasonable to assume its success is almost guaranteed.
