The day that X-fans have been waiting for is finally here. The trailer for the newest installment of the X-franchise, X-Men: Days of Future Past, has been released online. The trailer is stunning. Bryan Singer, the director of the first two installments, is returning to the directors chair in order to put the franchise back on its feet. Sure, First Class did well, but the reboot was hampered by old continuity. After Days of Future Past it looks like we’re going to be seeing a brand new X-franchise. You’ll see what I mean after you watch the trailer.
The film looks wonderful. The emotional arc is apparent and the fact that the old crew is back together again makes my heart sing. X-men was one of the first films that launched the super hero genre. It’s one of the films that proved to the studios that super heroes worked in a modern setting with a realistic non-campy take.
X-men: Days of Future Past does have some negative aspects, though. The obvious being Halle Berry’s hair, the future X-suits look really bad, and the fact that it’s Wolverine being sent back in time (as opposed to Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat like in the original comic). But those facets look negligible at this stage in the production. I’m sold. I’ll be there opening day with an open mind.
